This week’s vocabulary assignment is a short matching quiz.

You will need to match the vocabulary words with the correct definition.

  1. Open Word and save your file as lastname_firstname_Vocab2.
  2. Put your name at the top of the paper.
  3. Number the page from 1-13.
  4. Next to each number, type the word and the entire definition for that term. Don’t forget the letter.
  5. After the matching quiz, write a well developed paragraph about 1 of the operating systems.
    1. Use correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling
    2. Explain what an operating system is
    3. Describe the operating system of your choice
    4. The purpose of the paragraph is to help someone choose an operating system
  6. Save it, close it, and send it to me on the contact page.

Definitions:

  1. the brains of the computer – holds all of the hardware and parts
  2. the worldwide network that allows you to view pages and information
  3. a document, spreadsheet, image, etc that was created with an application
  4. a menu that gives you access to all programs, settings, and files
  5. a picture that identifies what it is linked to
  6. the folder that contains all of your documents, pictures, music, etc
  7. the software that tells the computer what to do with everything else
  8. the bar that stores all of your open windows so you can easily switch between windows
  9. an address on the internet
  10. an icon that links to a program – a shorter way to get to that program
  11. the section on the desktop that keeps track of  important system information
  12. the physical part that shows you everything that the computer is doing – it does not do any “thinking” on its own
  13. a series of instructions that work together to help you complete tasks like word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets
